The Trailer For The Scary Of Sixty-First Is Here And It’s Morbidly Funny

Arcadia has today released the official trailer for THE SCARY OF SIXTY-FIRST. Directed and written by Dasha Nekrasova (Succession, Red Scare Podcast) and starring Nekrasova, Betsey Brown, Madeline Quinn and Mark Rapaport, the contemporary horror is set to arrive in Australian cinemas nationally on December 16.

Horrific real-world news story becomes giallo-inspired horror in this gleefully deranged interrogation of our conspiracy-fuelled, edge lord-filled times. Twenty-something New Yorkers Addie (Brown) and Noelle (Quinn) can’t believe their luck when they find an apartment in their price range in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Of course, there’s a catch, and it’s not the food left to rot in the cupboard or the blood-stained mattresses. As they soon learn, the flat used to belong to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein – and absolutely nothing good can come from staying there, stewing in the paranoiac, malevolent doom he left behind.

The Berlinale Best First Feature Award–winning debut film of actor and ‘dirtbag leftist’ podcaster Nekrasova follows the separate rabbit holes into which the apartment draws these two women. For Noelle, it’s epic Epstein conspiracy theories and sex with her likeminded new girlfriend (Nekrasova); for Addie, it’s something more sordidly sinister.

Shooting on grimy, gleaming 16mm and cheekily nodding to everything from Eyes Wide Shut and Brian De Palma to 70s horror and pornography, Nekrasova dives into all-out madness but with tongue kept firmly in cheek throughout. And yet, underneath it all, The Scary of Sixty-First is driven by a palpable outrage and an acutely self-aware sense of the zeitgeist.

The Trailer For Walt Disney’s “Encanto” Is Officially Here

Walt Disney Animation Studios shared a new trailer and poster this morning showcasing its upcoming feature film Encanto. The film tells the tale of the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. Each child has been blessed with a magic gift unique to themeach child except Mirabel. But when the familys home is threatened, Mirabel may be their only hope.

Also revealed this morningactor John Leguizamo (Critical Thinking,” “Ice Age) joins the voice cast. I was so pumped to be asked to the party, said Leguizamo. Lin-Manuel [Miranda] wrote me a rap, and I flipped out! Plus, this is such a beautiful story set in Colombia. It’s a first in so many ways. The magic is enchanting, the comedy is so sharp, and the world created is irresistible.

Leguizamo lends his voice to Bruno, Mirabels uncle whos gifted with the ability to see the future. Brunos honest, often doomsaying predictions arent always well received by the rest of the family, so he disappeared long ago, becoming the uncle no one talks about. Bruno is so compelling because he is that guy that never quite fits in, said Leguizamo. He’s an outsider, but he also understands the world better because he’s always wanted to belong to it.

The voice cast also includes Stephanie Beatriz as Mirabel; María Cecilia Botero as Mirabels grandmother Alma aka Abuela; Angie Cepeda and Wilmer Valderrama as Mirabels parents, Julieta and Agustín;  and Diane Guererro and Jessica Darrow as Mirabels sisters, Isabela and Luisa. Also lending their voices are Carolina Gaitán and Mauro Castillo as Mirabels aunt and uncle, Pepa and Félix; and Adassa, Rhenzy Feliz and Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Mirabels cousins Dolores, Camilo and Antonio, respectively.

The film features all-new songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton,” “Moana) and is directed by Byron Howard (Zootopia,” “Tangled) and Jared Bush (co-director Zootopia), co-directed by Charise Castro Smith (writer The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez) and produced by Clark Spencer and Yvett Merino. Bush and Castro Smith are screenwriters on the film. The filmmakers were deeply inspired by their research trip to Colombia during the early development of Encanto, as well as their continuous work with a group of expert consultants assembled through the course of the films production. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto opens in Australian cinemas on December 2, 2021.

Nicole Kidman Leads an All-Star Cast In The Trailer For Hulu Miniseries Nine Perfect Strangers

Screenshot from Movie Coverage

Nicole Kidman is back on the small screen in Hulu miniseries Nine Perfect Strangers – and it looks very intriguing indeed.

Nine Perfect Strangers is an upcoming drama streaming television miniseries based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty. The series is created by David E. Kelley and John Henry Butterworth that is supposed to be slated to be released on August 18, 2021, on Hulu.

Here’s the synopsis of the movie:

“Nine people gather at a remote health resort. Some are here to lose weight, some are here to get a reboot on life, some are here for reasons they can’t even admit to themselves. Amidst all of the luxury and pampering, the mindfulness and meditation, they know these ten days might involve some real work. But none of them could imagine just how challenging the next ten days are going to be.

Frances Welty (Melissa McCarthy), the formerly best-selling romantic novelist, arrives at Tranquillum House nursing a bad back, a broken heart, and an exquisitely painful paper cut. She’s immediately intrigued by her fellow guests. Most of them don’t look to be in need of a health resort at all. But the person that intrigues her most is the strange and charismatic owner/director of Tranquillum House, Masha (Nicole Kidman). Could this person really have the answers Frances didn’t even know she was seeking? Should Frances put aside her doubts and immerse herself in everything Tranquillum House has to offer—or should she run while she still can?

It’s not long before every guest at Tranquillum House is asking exactly the same question.”
